The information display system is located in the conference room lobby in Gazprom headquarters in Nametkina Street. It was decided to install the screen on a section of the wall between two entrances to the conference hall. The position is rather complicated, as the opposite wall is fully glazed to let masses of natural daylight into the room. Besides, people pass close to the screen, so the image has to be readable from a short distance. With these factors being decisive in selecting the display technology, Avilex and the customer have ultimately chosen a LED screen with a small pixel pitch.
Leyard is known as a leading developer and manufacturer of LED displays. The company’s product range includes solutions for sports facilities, advertising, concert venues and shopping centers that are suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations. One of the most well-known applications of Leyard displays is the display system used at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing. Avilex has long used Leyard displays in its projects, e.g. while building the pavilion of the Republic of Kazakhstan at EXPO 2012.
The main component of the display system is 3.6 x 2.4m screen consisting of 72 Leyard EV 2.5 LED modules in the 9 x 8 configuration. The modules have a pixel pitch of 2.5 mm. So, the total resolution of the screen is 1440 x 960 pixels despite its rather small size. With this resolution, you can view information comfortably even from a short distance, which is not the case with the majority of LED screens. The Leyard LED screen has high brightness and contrast, delivering high quality images in bright light conditions. The screen is mounted on a frame specially designed by Avilex.
The screen serves two functions. Most of the time it is used for corporate communication purposes to broadcast announcements, videos and reports about company events and activities. When events are held at the conference room, the screen is used to broadcast videos or presentation content from the conference room to enable those in the lobby to follow the activities taking place inside.
Images are sent to the screen by Mitsubishi multi image processor with two Leyard controllers. To facilitate the operators' work, graphic templates for displaying information on the screen have been developed, enabling quick production of content, while maintaining the corporate style.
Project features:
-
Currently, this is one of few installations of LED displays with a pixel pitch of 2.5 mm in Russia.
-
One of the project's features is that Avilex engineers have managed to provide automatic control of the display without using any complicated and expensive automation systems. The system includes a three-position switch, with two positions being used to directly turn the screen on and off, and the third position being programmable. The latter was used to turn the display on and off on scheduled days and times, thus making the screen operate in a fully automatic mode without an integrated equipment control system.
-
A unique design of the screen. The room did not have space to provide access to the rear of the screen for maintenance purposes. Therefore Avilex has designed a special system, which allows easy maintenance access in a matter of minutes.
-
Another interesting solution is a network camera facing the screen, which enables the operator to check whether the content is displayed correctly at any time.
