Transport Security Management Center of the Moscow Metro

The Transport Security Management Center of the Moscow Metro was opened in the vicinity of the future Seligerskaya metro station of the Lyublinskaya-Dmitrovskaya Line. It is located in the building of the former Erevan movie theater on Dmitrovskoye highway.

"The Moscow Metro is rightfully considered as one of the most secure in the world. But we should stay alert anyway. New challenges confront us all the time; therefore we equip the metro with new systems, such as inspection areas, video cameras, and a smart video surveillance system. In addition, we increase the number of employees to provide security in the metro. Today, we are launching a security center combining these technologies into a single solution to enhance the effectiveness of all security tools and fasten response to any emergencies,” Sergei Sobyanin said.

According to him, the comprehensive efforts taken in recent years to ensure security have resulted in a significant reduction in the number of administrative and criminal offenses in the metro…

In 2016, the Moscow Metro began to implement another large project for transport security – building a new-generation smart video surveillance system… The underground system consists of smart cameras of two types: IP cameras for situational and general video surveillance and machine vision cameras with a hazard detection function.  The latter can automatically detect gatherings of passengers, unusual movement in the opposite direction, disturbances of the public peace (fights, scuffles, etc.), forgotten items, access to restricted areas, and other offences...

More than 17 thousand surveillance cameras send data to the center.  The new security system enables employees of the Moscow metro to be 10 times faster in responding to emergency situations.  Center operators also have access to surveillance cameras installed on the Moscow Central Ring…

Operators of the Moscow Metro Transport Security Management Center will be responsible for receiving and assessing data from cameras and responding to emergencies.  A data center with a memory of 11 petabytes was established for storing video streams. Videos are kept for 30 days…

The centralized security system will enable the Moscow Metro staff to respond to emergency situations 10 times faster than when using conventional methods...

“In addition to the Security Center, within a year, the building will also house a uniform supervisory control center for the entire metro, which is currently not available,” the Mayor of Moscow added, underlining that it will be one of the most advanced metro control centers.
